Terra Madre – Forging a New Global Network of Sustainable Food Communities On the evening of 6th May 2010, at Oxford Brookes University, guests had a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the food world’s most influential and inspiring figures. |
In his lecture, Carlo Petrini examined the consequences of large-scale industrial agriculture. He presented an alternative model – one based on the formation of local alliances between food producers and food consumers.
Slow Food, formed in 1989, works to support local food traditions and fights against people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. It now has over 100,000 members in 132 countries.
